how is my tiny baby 6 months already? (the pic is up on the Monthly Pictures Page)

the doctors appt is in a couple days so i will have the height and weight stats then. i think she’s gaining some weight because her 6 month clothes are actually kinda fitting. what! not like they’re snug, just the fact that she can get into them and they swallow her whole. the only real problem is that clothing companies think that it’s time for fall when in fact it was 109 degrees yesterday so these cute long sleeved onesies are of no use to me right now. i’m pretty sure she can still fit them when the weather gets decent though.

we went ahead to the ImageShots in the mall to get her pictures taken.  it was a fairly simple process and very cheap. and then i found out about this super awesome program to “photoshop” my pictures.  Adobe Lightroom is fantastic. i had been telling brownlee that i wanted him to photoshop them and he would just stare at me.  i wanted the fancy lighting and different tones and hues and etc and he just kinda stared at me and said he could airbrush makeup on. what?! come to find out he had the program all along and now i’m going to spend even more time messing with the kids pics.  but at least i don’t need the fancy camera…yet. woo!

go have a peek at what i’ve done so far

she is a super pro at sitting up. she likes to use you as leverage to stand just because. still not exactly a crawler but she is very very mobile.  lordy.she is also more…vocal? she will just giggle when things are exactly funny but she just wants to make a noise or get your attention.  and sometimes she kind of just mumbles to herself.  which is a nice change from the screeching i hear when i attempt to comb her hair.

how did we get here so fast?!

edit: i did some research and figured out how to embed the photo slideshow!!!

remember when i was going on about addy and the tags?

feast your eyes on this crappy video shot with my Blackberry. (any background noise is Looney Tunes). the object is one of those keep the paci clipped to the baby thingies.

so remember way back forever ago when i was pregnant and brownlee was all “you don’t need a changing table” and “you don’t need that many blahblahs”? ok well what we really don’t need ever is baby toys.

addy’s current interest is in tags.  not like high dollar label things but the actual tags on things.  toys, blankets, you name it.

you're next

hand her a plush toy and she turns it over until she finds the care tag that sticks out the back. and then she gnaws on it.  and i’m on the innanet talking to the other mommy bloggers and baby bumpers and asking them what’s the what about the tags.  then i hear tale of taggie blankets that super crafty mommies make that are just a piece of cloth with different tags on the ends.  so what do i do? google tag blankets.  and learn that they sell them in target.  how awesome! an actual reason to go to target! (as if i ever needed one). but then as i sit addy on my bed to fold some laundry, i come up with the brilliant idea to just give addy a tshirt to chew on. it has a tag! its cotton and can soak up drool! i’m pretty much the smartest mom ever in life! and addy loved it.  she pulled it over her face.  chewed on the tag.  examined the shirt.  ate up the tag.  then took it out her mouth, leaned over, and spit up all over my comforter.  then i realized it was my Buc-ee’s t-shirt.  double dose of fail.

then i was in target and looked for the taggie blanket thing and they were sold out. and of course i’m thinking “oh this must be awesome i have to have a taggies blanket…for addy i mean”. but i found these plush blocks. and one had taggies! and one makes crinkly noise! and one has letters on it! and one has a rattle inside” (ok there are only 4 blocks but i mean they have lots of sides). i bring it home and whip them out for addy to play. look addy! look how awesome!

thanks for these dumb blocks mom!

she got the one block with a for real regular ass care tag on it and ate it.

here’s other things she likes to eat and play with.

but i'd rather eat your yoga pants

and the wipes box is the coolest

also i wised up and give her a baby hooded blanket or just a cloth diaper to chew on instead of my own shirts to catch the drool.  and speaking of chewing on, that’s all addy does.  everyone has been saying that she’s been teething since like may. and i coulda sworn a tooth was going to pop out overnight but i still don’t even feel anything.  and my hands are in her mouth all the time (against my will).

Naynee got some teething rings when we went to visit and addy just never cared for them but i actually read the directions and they say to put them in the fridge not the freezer. and she loves them! who woulda thought reading directions would make something work right. and who woulda thought teethers came with directions.  ha! i mostly think that she’s just better with her hands nowand wants to chew on things so that’s why they work.  Either way they will work until she eyes something else that is NOT a toy for babies and is actually a functioning items for adults like cell phones or remotes and things of that nature.  i’m going to have to do something about the coffee table because she keeps eyeing the wrought iron curved legs.  instead of baby-proofing i might just get rid of everything in the living room. it’s just easier

and cheaper.

kelly just had a baby! YAY KELLS! we went to go see the new family at the hospital and as soon as the oohs and ahhs were over kelly and i started to compare battle scars.  not a literal lifting of the shirts and showing stretch marks or scars or anything but more so a genral comparison of how the childbearing process went for us.  c-section versus vaginal.  and i swear i was going on like a war veteran just shaking my head like never ever again. and kelly was all hopped up on pain meds planning the next baby.  as i type this i’m shaking my head at the whole idea of it, but that’s another blog for another day.  she’s the type that would sign up for another tour of duty and i’m the type that would be cross-dressing looking for a psych discharge.  but now we’re moms and that’s the kind of thing only people that have been through labor can discuss. it’s a crazy awesome group to belong to.

and then i got to bestow all my priceless knowledge upon kells.  do this.  don’t do that. nurses are wrong and doctors suck! it’s your baby do whatever you want. don’t listen when people say blah blah! have your mom do this! babies are gross! and so on. i tried not to be as bad as people were to me but i mean i’m a pro at being a mom.  a whole 5 months under my belt.  i should be up for a raise soon! ha! but i did try to give practical advice and made sure i said “well we tried…” instead of strict orders to follow my way. at least in my head i did.

anywho addy has been very…active lately. we have progressed from the random goo goo gaa gaa to full on dissertations.  granted addy is the only one who can understand it but she is very adamant about getting her point across to us.  we’ve watched lots and lots of Despicable Me and i found this new show Classical Baby on HBO that’s just animated classical heres the talking and addy watching Classical Baby combined.

she’s also becoming a pro sitter upper. she doesn’t bend over in half anymore, well not all the time.  she’s starting to get the hang of it. woo! here’s her and her co-star Cup.

(she keeps looking over at Brownlee playing vidya games)

also we jumped the gun and bumped addy up to the larger nipples for 6 month old babies.  so she was flying through her bottles and then later in the hour she’d puke up a large majority of it.  there’s several cuts of the video that include massive amounts of throw up with someone (me) going “ewwwwww” every time. so we’re going to just go back down to 2 and let her take it slow. apparently the 6 month holes are for when you add cereal to the formula. yeaaaah we’re not doing that.  and Booby bought addy sippy cups! but i’m not ready for her to have juice, so we might start to put the formula in the cup instead of the bottle.  or half and half so she gets used to cups.  i was reading how the sooner you do it the more easily they are (likely) to adapt to a cup instead of waiting until they turn a year then they get all set in their ways.  who addy?! no way! (yeah right).

also i’m so mad at that hospital for not issuing us a Digital SLR camera to take home with our new baby.  i mean they already charged us out the wazoo what’s another couple hundred for a fancy pants camera?! i need it now! i have lots of pictures i want to take and i want them to be of perfect quality and taken at lightning fast speed.  so now i gotta go get me a piggy bank to save up for one. i swears i’ll take care of it and treat it good and keep it for ever and ever (in my Elmyra voice). but i have to do lots of research to see which one best suits me before i take the plunge.

speaking of nice pics, addy turns 6 months the end of this month so i’ll probably schedule a photo session somewhere and hopefully just get the pics i have a coupon for and not get tooken for a bazillion dollars of pics that addy is just too cute in.  pfft. but at least brownlee will be there to stop me from going too bananas buying poses.

that won’t stop me from getting cute outfits for the shoot though! sucka.

Hey gang, it’s been a while since I brought my thoughts to this blog, so for that I’m back.  Well since I’m in a blogging mood and because I have a question to ask you guys (and gals).

When is it safe to pierce my Addy Boo’s ears?

I’ve read mixed reviews of the topic, from people getting newborn’s ears holed-up to waiting until she’s at least 6 months, which is what our pediatrician recommended.  The problem isn’t the where to get her ears poked, because our doctor does them in his office, we just have to ask in advance and pay them there….all about the Benjamins baby!  Now the debate between her mother and I, is to do it now or wait till she can decide for herself.  Of course I’m the one who wants her to wear them because I have a girl and I want people to know she’s a girl…with her first BLING!

Here is what I’ve found from a doctor:

Some people pierce their children’s ears when they’re newborns and there’s no medical reason to wait. But the procedure is not without risk.
Not all ear-piercing operations have the proper equipment or staff trained to work specifically with young children. For example, ear piercing guns cannot be sterilized, which means that it’s possible to contract hepatitis or some other infection from them. If you’re set on having your baby’s ears pierced, it’s probably safer to ask your pediatrician if she’ll do it for you with a needle. And here’s what else you should know before having the procedure done:

Ear piercing is usually done without painkillers because the piercing itself hurts less than a shot of anesthetic would. (You can give your baby a dose of infants’ acetaminophen or ibuprofen before the procedure if you want.)

Another thing to remember is that your child will be constantly touching her ears and the pierced area can easily become infected. To help guard against this, you’ll need to clean the posts and the area around the ear with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide several times a day (or as often as your doctor recommends). Watch for increased redness or tenderness around the piercing hole and on the earlobe that could indicate infection.

There’s also a chance that your child will have an allergic reaction to metals after getting her ears pierced. If she develops a rash around the piercing, you’ll need to take the earrings out. To avoid this, you can try to make sure that the parts of the earrings that touch her ear are made of surgical steel or 14 karat gold. (This includes not only the posts but the backs as well.) If the rash doesn’t subside, your child will probably not be able to wear earrings.

Normally I’m the type of parent that will do what I want with my baby, because she’s mine, but since Bre has been asking everybody that isn’t bald for natural hair advice, I’m going to see what you guys have to say about when it’s safe to pierce Addy’s ears?  Depending on what I learn here, Addy may just get her ears pierced at her 6 month doctor’s visit at the end of the month.

Thanks for tuning in….

this weekend was a first in our household.  Addy spent the weekend with the Grandparents. dun dun dunnnnnnnn.

we survived.

my friends have been talking about going to New Orleans…well daily for about a year, since our last trip.  the city is awesome. we love to eat. we love to walk around the French Quarter. so why not go.  i was a little apprehensive because i’ve never spent the night away from Addy and although i don’t fancy myself a clingy mom, i just hadn’t really been up to the challenge yet.  but i HAD to get to New Orleans so i was willing to suck it up.

at first some people were shocked that i was willing to leave my five-month old at home with…wait for it…her own FATHER (the horror) because everyone knows that men are highly incapable of taking care of their own offspring (why haven’t they invented a sarcasm font yet). but to take some of the load off, YaYa offered up her services to watch Addy for one night while Brownlee went out and I was out of town.  things went so well they went ahead and kept her another night.  I got pictures of the fabulous hair do YaYa gave Addy (3 ponytails…so much hair) and Brownlee managed to keep himself occupied to not go crazy from being home alone.

I won’t lie and say I partied it up in New Orleans because I’ve never been a party it up type of person, but I ate like a champ and had a blast. it was a return to me being the old me and not just the Mommy Bre or Worker Bee Bre.  i loved it.  but i equally enjoyed coming home and finding Addy knocked out in the bed and Brownlee watching some crap movie.  part of me was worried that Addy wouldn’t remember who i was because i have no idea about a baby’s ability to remember things or what their concept of time is. but this morning she woke up smiling at me and kicking laughing as i changed her diaper.  then she snuggled right up with me and went back to sleep after her bottle.  even gave me a poopie diaper to show how much she missed me.  oh and then she thew up on my chin later. she really loves me! and i didn’t complain one bit.

this is my life but as with everything a break was highly needed.  i think we’re all refreshed and reset and ready to enjoy our little family.throw up and all.

also, i only woke up once thinking i heard Addy at the hotel in New Orleans. 🙂

how could you not love that?!

so you know addy’s favoritest new thing is rolling over.  after four right-on pics our mini photo shoot turned to this

food has been going great. we just bumped addy up to the bigger sized nipples.  4 holes.  they’re supposed to be for when you put cereal in the bottle but we aren’t doing that.  the result is that she runs through a bottle now.  same amount of food but half the time.  still not sure if this is a good or bad thing.  and she loves all sorts of the foods.  peaches.  sweet potatoes.  bananas.  all of it. loves it.  i haven’t done any reading on when we move up to the 2nd stage foods that are more complex like “mixed vegetables” or “cranberries and bananas”. fancy diapers. also there is a very prominent tooth bud on the top gums.  when she bites on my hands i can feel it coming in.  this means 8x more drool than before and a lot of gnawing on toys/books/anythingNOTateether.

i’m very very sure that crawling is on the horizon.  she’s been very interested in scooter but the feeling is not mutual.  she’ll get after him soon i’m sure.  the jumperoo is still going strong.  we’ve moved the pack n play from our bedroom to the living room so she can hang out.  Rugrats style! kicking is her new thing too.  she would always kick once we laid her down on the changing table. but now its anywhere! in the feeding chair.  in the tub.  in the air.  whatever. kicking is the coolest.

sleeping is going well.  the waking and talking is starting to phase out.  or maybe i’ve just been sleeping through it? either way we’re getting a little more sleep. a little more quietly.

we keep cleaning more and more clothes out of the closet. i even hit up carter’s for a nice little fall clothes sale.  got a super cute dress and some stockings and what not. now we just have to wait until september. pfft.  some outfits i’m sad to see  go.

i decided to only keep the onesies that we made ourselves.  i know lots of people keep baby

peep the hair clip

clothes for the next baby but i won’t discuss that and then how would i even want those same outfits again. when it comes to baby gear, i haven’t made up my mind just yet. but that’s why mom’s have big houses for storage eh?!

and strangely after 5 months of numerous outfit changes a day, i still suck at putting on baby clothes.  there are just too many adjustments and snaps and whatnot.  plus the kid is squirmy.  i can barely get into my shirts that have too many straps.  it would be nice when the kid starts to cooperate…or can dress herself.  whichever comes first.

holy crap.  5 months already. how?!
